US ministry sends Bibles to Malawi

Malawi (Mission Network News) Recently, Mission Cry partners heard from Christians in the Southeastern African country of Malawi. They asked for Bibles to be delivered to them.

Mission Cry sends used Bibles and Christian books all over the world in shipping containers.

Jason Woolford says, “I told them we really couldn’t send it there. It’s landlocked. We don’t have anybody that can help release a container.”

But then, the unexpected happened.

Bible translators celebrate global progress but note remaining needs

International (Mission Network News) With any group project, it’s essential to know who is doing what so you’re all on the same page. Apply that concept to the global “group project” of Bible translation, and you have the Forum of Bible Agencies International or FOBAI.

“[FOBAI] includes names that some readers and listeners may be familiar with, like Wycliffe USA, Seed Company, and United Bible Societies,” DOOR International’s Rob Myers says.

FOBAI also includes “organizations in ‘niche’ areas, like DOOR and Deaf Missions, Deaf Bible Society – organizations involved in sign language Bible translation.”

Members meet annually to coordinate and collaborate, and all FOBAI members work toward a common goal – getting God’s Word to everyone who needs it.

(Mission Network News) While normally focused on South Asia and Africa, Bibles For The World (BFTW) has begun outreach to Ukraine.

John Pudaite says, “We have historically done a fair amount of distribution in Europe, especially in Russia, even during the time it was behind the Iron Curtain. We also worked in other former Soviet Union countries that developed as the USSR broke up. But this is kind of a return to this area after probably 20-25 years.”

Shortly after the invasion, one BFTW employee volunteered to help Ukrainian refugees and has kept the ministry informed about the situation.

Haiti Missionaries Describe Daring Escape to Evade Kidnappers

(BBC) – Twelve missionaries who were abducted in Haiti managed to get away on their own, their organization has said.

The group escaped their captors at night and used the stars for navigation to trek through dense bush for hours, a spokesman said.

Christian Aid Ministries announced the group were finally free last week, after being held captive since October.

The gang that seized them had demanded a ransom of $1m (£740,000) per hostage. It is not clear if any money was paid.

In total, 17 missionaries and their families were abducted, after they had visited an orphanage in the town of Ganthier, east of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Five others had already been released.

Haitian Gang Releases 2 Missionaries Held Hostage, 15 Still Being Held

(Fox News) — A Christian missionary group announced that two of its 17 missionaries have been released after being held hostage by a Haitian gang.

Christian Aid Missionaries, which is based in Ohio, made the announcement on Sunday but did not provide further information about the individuals released.

“We have learned that two of the hostages in Haiti were released. We praise God for this! Only limited information can be provided, but we are able to report that the two hostages who were released are safe, in good spirits and being cared for,” the group said in a statement.

Fifteen of the group’s missionaries are still being held hostage by the 400 Mawozo gang.

Milwaukee DA Refuses to Charge Teens in Videotaped Beating of Street Preacher Who Had Head Stomped On

[embedded content]
(WISN) — The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will not charge anyone in the beating of a street preacher attacked outside of Riverside University High School in September even though the attack was caught on video and the attacker is easily identifiable.

“The Dan O’Donnell Show” has obtained a letter from the District Attorney’s Office to Nicholas Heald, who was assaulted while preaching against abortion as students lined up for school buses after the school day on September 13th.

Heald captured the attack on his body camera, and it was witnessed by multiple Riverside students and staff members as well as Heald’s fellow anti-abortion protesters.

“The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office at the Juvenile Justice Center has reviewed the police reports and other evidence in this case in which you were listed as the victim,” the District Attorney’s Office wrote in an unsigned letter to Heald this week. “Based upon that review, Assistant District Attorney Claire Roehre has concluded that no charges will be issued in this matter.”

Notorious Gang Kidnaps U.S. Missionaries in Haiti, Including 5 Children

[embedded content]

(NBC News) — A group of American missionaries kidnapped in Haiti over the weekend are being held by one of the country’s most notorious gangs, according to a Haitian police official.

Sixteen U.S. nationals and one Canadian were visiting an orphanage on Saturday as part of their work for Christian Aid Ministries, according to a statement from the nonprofit issued on Sunday. Among those being held are five children, the statement added.

“Join us in praying for those who are being held hostage, the kidnappers, and the families, friends, and churches of those affected,” Christian Aid Ministries said in the statement.

The gang, known as the 400 Mawozo, abducted the missionaries in the Ganthier commune east of the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince, police inspector Frantz Champagne told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Afghan Christian: ‘We Are Not Leaving the Field; We Will Fight Harder and Continue God’s Work’

[embedded content]
In a video released and being circulated online following the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, an unidentified Afghan Christian can be heard through tears speaking the following in his native language:

“Hello dear brothers and sisters, I hope you are healthy. Today in Afghanistan is the first day of Taliban rule. I don’t know what the future of this country will be. We are not able to control our emotions, because we’ve worked so hard for twenty years. All of our work over the past twenty years has been lost overnight. Only God understands how much pain we have and how broken our hearts are. We are not crying out of fear, but because our hearts ache for our beautiful country. It has now been destroyed by this savage and extremist group. Every precious thing of value in our nation is now destroyed. The whole world has abandoned us. Those who said they would support us, have now abandoned us to the worst situation imaginable. I don’t know what is going to happen to us. Are we supposed to live alongside the Taliban’s rule?

My friends, we record this video as a testimony. We want it to remain in history. We want to be remembered by our friends and loved ones that today we have been left in the field by ourselves. But we are not leaving the field, we will fight harder and will continue God’s work. If we are no longer with you, remember this word from our UNBROKEN hearts. But please remember us, the great difficulties we now face. If any of us remain, if our children remain, I have a request: Please do not leave them alone. Please take care of them. Please do not abandon them. I’m sorry I cried and became emotional. My heart hurts. Send this to all of your friends as a remembrance. I hope this finds you under our Heavenly Father’s shelter. Thank you.”
