Sex offender who locked up daughter for 24 years, fathered her 7 children may be released

(Fox News) Josef Fritzl, an Austrian man who held his daughter captive in his basement as a sex slave for 24 years, fathering seven of her children, could be moved from prison to an elderly care home, according to global reports.

Fritzl, now 88, reportedly has dementia and is physically weak after several falls, meaning he is not expected to pose any future threats to the public, Austrian news outlet ORF reported.

An Austrian court will determine whether Fritzl’s condition makes him eligible to be removed from a high-security prison and placed in a care home.

Fritzl is also eligible for parole this year under Austrian law, which allows prisoners sentenced to life in prison to apply for parole after serving 15 years.)

Whole Foods didn’t break the law by banning pins and face masks with BLM slogans, judge rules

(Business Insider) — Whole Foods didn’t break the law when it banned workers from wearing apparel and accessories with Black Lives Matter slogans and in some cases disciplined them for breaking this policy, a federal judge has ruled.

From early June 2020, following the killing of George Floyd, some Whole Foods staff starting wearing items including face masks, pins, jewelry, and T-shirts with BLM phrases such as “I can’t breathe,” “BLM,” and “Black Lives Matter.”

Managers and supervisory staff at the Amazon-owned retailer told workers that this violated the company’s dress code, and generally told them that they could either remove the item in question or clock out and go home early, which incurred attendance or dress-policy violations, allegedly leading to discharges in some cases, per the case proceedings. Some employees staged walkouts after being told they couldn’t wear accessories with BLM slogans.

Former rescuer avoids jail by agreeing to indefinitely provide Biden admin with info on pro-lifers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – A former pro-life rescuer has signed an agreement with the federal government that requires her to fully cooperate with the pro-abortion Biden administration whenever it calls upon her for information on pro-life operations.

The deal contains no time limit, and allows the government to resurrect FACE Act felony charges with years in prison if it deems the agreement has not been kept.

Last week 24-year-old Caroline Davis testified against 5 of her former rescue colleagues currently on trial and facing up to 11 years in jail for their role in a pro-life rescue at the Washington-Surgi Clinic on on October 22, 2020. Davis was also present at that rescue, although she has never faced charges related to that event.

But Davis was facing FACE Act charges for two other pro-life rescues in the state of Michigan. While she was not charged with violations of the FACE Act in the case being tried in Washington, D.C., the federal government sought her out to obtain testimony against her fellow rescuers in this case.

California jewelry store hit in broad daylight by dozens of masked thieves who escape in waiting getaway cars

(Fox News) – A mob of thieves was captured on video fleeing a luxury clothing store in Glendale, California, carrying armloads of merchandise reportedly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in broad daylight on Tuesday.

Bystanders outside the Americana at Brand shopping complex in Glendale recorded now-viral cellphone video of the dozens of masked thieves running out of an Yves Saint Laurent store.

“All merchandise was taken in less than a minute,” a store worker told FOX11 Los Angeles.

DeSantis: Woman who violate abortion bans should not be punished

Gage Skidmore (Wikimedia)

(The Hill) – GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis said that he would not support punishments for women who violate abortion bans.

“Not at all,” DeSantis responded when NBC’s Dasha Burns asked whether he supported punishments for those who violate an abortion ban. “No, I don’t think this is an issue about the woman. I think a lot of these women, you know, are in very difficult circumstances. They don’t get any support from a lot of the fathers.”

DeSantis and his wife, Casey DeSantis, sat down with Burns in a new NBC interview that aired Monday. The Florida governor — who signed a six-week abortion ban in the state earlier this year — said that many women get abortions because they do not have adequate support, noting that Florida has support in place for women.

Texas AG appeals judge’s order that allows women with certain pregnancies to get abortions

(The Texas Tribune) – A Texas judge on Friday issued a temporary exemption to the state’s abortion ban that would allow women with complicated pregnancies to obtain the procedure and keep doctors free from prosecution if they determined the fetus would not survive after birth.

But hours later, the attorney general’s office filed an appeal with the Texas Supreme Court, blocking the judge’s order from taking effect.

State District Court Judge Jessica Mangrum of Austin wrote that the attorney general cannot prosecute doctors who, in their “good faith judgment,” terminate a complicated pregnancy. Mangrum outlined those conditions as a pregnancy that presents a risk of infection; a fetal condition in which the fetus will not survive after birth; or when the pregnant person has a condition that requires regular, invasive treatment.

Last month, the court heard from three women who testified against Texas’ abortion ban, describing how delayed medical care impacted their pregnancies. The women are suing the state over the law, seeking to clarify when a medical emergency justifies an abortion. Currently, the law allows termination of a pregnancy if the mother’s life is in danger.

False ‘missionary’ raised $30M for Bibles—then blew it on diamonds and gambling: DOJ

(Daily Beast) — Federal authorities have launched an international manhunt for a Georgia everyman-turned-fugitive who is being sought for an alleged scheme that redirected more than $30 million from Christian charities meant to be spent on Bible distribution in China.

According to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday, 45-year-old Jason Gerald Shenk took more than $33 million in donations from charities and individuals—money that he allegedly promised to use for producing and distributing Bibles and Christian literature—and spent it on a slew of expensive personal purchases.

Shenk allegedly spent about $1 million on diamonds and precious metals, $7 million on his family farm, $320,000 on real estate in Chile, $4 million on 16 life insurance policies, $850,000 on shares of a private U.S. nuclear company, $820,000 on credit card payments and $1 million deposited in an online sports betting site—which was subsequently shut down for fraudulent activity.

Toddler in North Korea ‘sentenced to life in prison after parents caught with Bible’

(The Telegraph) — A toddler was sentenced to life imprisonment in North Korea after the child’s family was found in possession of a Bible, according to a new report by the US State Department.

Although the incident took place in 2009, it has been highlighted in the department’s new report on international religious freedoms this month, citing data from Korea Future, a non-governmental organisation documenting human rights abuses in North Korea.

“One case involved the 2009 arrest of a family based on their religious practices and possession of a Bible.

“The entire family, including a two-year-old child, were given life sentences in political prison camps,” it said.
